Sachertorte or Apfelstrudel? Which Austrian dessert reigns supreme?

Created in 1832 by 16-year-old apprentice chef Franz Sacher at the court of Prince Metternich, Sachertorte is considered by many to be the reigning king of Austrian desserts. However, many believe this king should be usurped by the noble Apfelstrudel. You be the judge!

I’ve included a link from austra.info to a recipe for Sachertorte. You can find it here.

(Note: It is not the original recipe, because that is a well-kept secret, known only to confectioners at Hotel Sacher in Vienna.)

And here is a recipe for Apfelstrudel. You can find it here.

So, if you haven’t tried either of these originals, be sure to put them on your bucket list. Make that trip to Vienna, Austria and enjoy a slice of these delicious Austrian desserts. You surely won’t regret it!

Lastly, I should mention that I absolutely love the Austrian kitchen! Austrian cuisine is delicious! From meat dishes to fish dishes and from vegetarian dishes to sweet dishes, you can’t go wrong!
